Raiders want to involve McFadden more in passing game

Here are several of the whispers that we've heard lately regarding the AFC West:

shutting down TE Zach Miller, the Raiders are looking for another receiver to step up and fill the void in short-to-intermediate yardage situations. We're told the team is making an effort to get RB Darren McFadden(notes) more involved in the passing game. He could become a safety valve for QB Jason Campbell(notes) if he can stay healthy.
• There have been reports that the Broncos are in negotiations with CB Champ Bailey(notes), who will be a free agent after this season, on a new contract, but it doesn't appear that a deal is imminent. Broncos could be a contender in the not-too-distant future, we hear Bailey won't limit his options by signing a deal before his contract expires unless Denver blows him away with a very lucrative offer.
• The Chargers immediately felt the loss of Kassim Osgood(notes) in their Week One loss at Kansas City. Osgood, who left for Jacksonville this offseason as a free agent, was a three-time Pro Bowler and widely regarded as one of the league's premier special-teamers. In the opener, San Diego allowed the Chiefs to gain an average of 32 yards on their five punt returns, including a 94-yard TD return by Dexter McCluster(notes).
• Flying under the radar last week following the Chiefs' stunning win was the unexpected resignation of team president Denny Thum. A member of the organization for 36 years and president since May 2009, Thum abruptly resigned from his post a day after Kansas City began its season, with no explanation as to why Minnesota Vikings jersey
he was stepping down. Chairman Clark Hunt, who assumes the additional title of CEO, will assume Thum's responsibilities until the club hires a new president.
