an unhappy locker room but they do know how to win. The Dolphins, meanwhile, are lying in the weeds and the Bills, hopeful under new coach Chan Gailey, are simply trying to get up.
BEST COACH: Bill Belichick's rings have picked up a little tarnish lately (it's been six seasons since his last title) and Rex Ryan has proven to be his mental match. But until Ryan collects a little hardware, the surly, droll Belichick is still the gold standard. Belichick goes into this season without an official offensive or defensive coordinator so it's all on him.
BEST PLAYER: Jet hater Tom Brady's reconstructed knee shouldn't be an issue with a full season (4,398 yards, 28 TD passes) behind him. He looked sharp all preseason and he should have Randy Moss and Wes Welker healthy. Some feel he may be less committed since his marriage to supermodel Gisele Bundchen but that shouldn't be the case. If anything, Brady could start the season more motivated than ever.
DON'T BE SURPRISED IF: The Dolphins end up stealing the division from under the Patriots' and Jets' noses. Brandon Marshall and Karlos Dansby upgrade both sides of the ball and the young offensive line is as good a run-blocking unit as there is. Chad Henne Minnesota Vikings jersey
is primed for a breakout year.
KEY ADDITION: The Dolphins are hoping that bad boy Marshall, acquired from the Broncos for a pair of draft picks, can put them over the top. Marshall (three straight 100-catch seasons) is not a burner but he's one of the premier receivers in the game and as such, demands double teams. Any hijinks and he'll eventually have to answer to Bill Parcells.
KEY SUBTRACTION: Running back Thomas Jones signed with the Chiefs when it was obvious the Jets were going to go with Shonn Greene. Greene pretty much took over the spot during the playoffs and his injury in the AFC Championship Game stunted the Jets' attack. It's not often a team can shrug off a back who gained 1,400 yards the previous season, but that's the case here.
X-FACTOR: The Jets defense is good Indianapolis Colts jersey
enough to get them back into the playoffs. It will be up to Mark Sanchez to get them any further. Sanchez had a fine postseason but the wraps were still on him. At some point, the Jets are going to have to expand the offense and Sanchez is going to have to play like a first-rounder. He didn't look like one in the preseason.
