
Jason Smith, who played 1,008 games over 15 seasons as an NHL defenseman, faces criminal charges in Calgary for domestic assault against his wife and teenage daughter.

Smith was released shortly after his arrest and his lawyer, Alain Hepner, pointed out to reporters that Smith had no criminal record and the charges are “devastating” to him and his family.
Hepner wouldn’t elaborate on details of the allegations but emphasized there were no serious or permanent injuries and he is consulting with counseling experts on behalf of his client.
