wide receiver Mike Williams let a perfectly thrown pass bounce of his chest late in the fourth quarter on Sunday. His team simultaneously lost its fifth game of the 2007 season, 13-9, to the Tennessee Titans. It was a day-long struggle to slow down Tennessee's defensive line for the much-maligned 4 Brett Favre Purple jersey
Oakland O-line. In his fourth start of the season, Raiders quarterback Daunte Culpepper was sacked five times and hurried all day. The 260-pounder finished with just 15 completions on 32 attempts; he also threw a fourth-quarter interception to accompany no touchdown passes. The Tennessee front four dominated Oakland's line on nearly every snap. Despite entering the game as the NFL's fourth-best ground attack, the Raiders rushed for just 92 yards. Justin Fargas led the team with 61 yards on 12 carries, while starter LaMont Jordan also rushed 12 times, but for only 16 yards.Culpepper, who appeared to be late under center all game, also fumbled four times, losing three.Defensively, the Raider secondary held second-year passer Vince Young to just six completions for 41 yards. He also rushed seven times for only 11 yards. It was, however, a successful day on the ground that helped the Titans put 13 points on the board. Youngsters LenDale White and Chris Henry combined for 181 rushing yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. All said and done, though, despite being dominated statistically, Oakland could have potentially been 16 yards from a victory had Williams hauled in a pass late in the fourth quarter. With 1:21 remaining in the game, Culpepper gunned a 14-yard pass to Williams on fourth down from the Tennessee 30. Unfortunately, the 230-pounder let the pass bounce of his chest at the first-down marker. Had Williams made the easy catch, the Raiders would have been 16 yards away from a 16-13 victory and 3-4 record.Don't expect Williams, once a first-round pick of the Detroit Lions, to see much playing time in the upcoming weeks. He now has just seven catches for 70 yards in seven games, and his days in the NFL may be coming to end.Culpepper may have also started his last game as a Raider. If the ailing Josh McCown is able to start next week, head coach Lane Kiffin will likely bench Culpepper. The 30-year-old is now 57 for 99 for 624 yards in his past 43 Polamalu white jersey
three starts, but he has thrown only two touchdowns to four interceptions and has fumbled six times.Rookie JaMarcus Russell also suited up for the first time on Sunday; he was listed as the team's third quarterback, ahead of the 25-year-old Andrew Walter, behind both Culpepper and McCown.Next week, the Raiders will host the 3-5 Houston Texans.Anthony Carroll, a senior writer for
